What is Lipoatrophy?
One of the most stigmatizing
effects of Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) is facial
lipoatrophy - the loss of subcutaneous fat in the cheeks, temples
and eye sockets.
In many cases, the physical
appearance of HIV+ patients suffering from facial lipoatrophy can
have a destructive effect on self-image and confidence, with general
and debilitating roll-on psychological and social effects.
Not least, fears of the tell-tale
stigma of facial lipoatrophy can cause patients to avoid or postpone
vital HAART treatment. Aquamid injectable
implants have been developed to specifically target lipoatrophy
patients in need of new contouring. The hydrogel is fully-tested,
easy to administer, immediate in effect and safe. Aquamid
restores self-confidence, removes stigmatization, and keeps natural
look with no loss of mimic.
